Eid 2k19: How it Went Down

Hello readers! Its another Friday and you know what that means! So before I begin I would like to wish everyone a happy Eid! I trust you all had a wonderful holiday (I know my Ghana people are still celebrating hehe). Anyways.....

This years theme was Met Gala (I'm even surprised that I was unaware even though I DID spend some time teasing people about treating eid prayers like the Met Gala). For those who do not know what the Met Gala is, let me enlighten you. The Met Gala is an annual fundraising event for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York City. Tons of celebrities go to these events dressed in various fashion pieces. Anyways moving on....

Normally I just throw on whatever my mother has in mind for me and just go to the masjid and don't change. This year however, I decided to do something different and switch it up a bit. I wore two outfits! I ended up wearing an abaya (that I had to order twice because I didn't like the first one). For my second outfit (which I took to the gathering at Claremont park), I paid homage to my African roots and wore an Ankara style recommended by my sister-in-law.

Funny thing is that my scheduled ride ended up ditching me and so I ended up taking the train on eid (which I had never done) to the park. Before you gasp in shock, it was totally worth it. I saw people that I hadn't seen in a year or two and got to catch up. At the end of the day, these events are not just about wearing the fancy fascinators or showing off your "Gucci" shoes or your Apple AirPods that we all know you probably bought on Aliexpress for 15 dollars hoping no one would notice. Its about networking and maintaining ties and friendships. To everlasting relationships. Happy Eid loves.
